Cole Palmer shared his disappointment after Chelsea’s 2-1 loss to Fulham, despite scoring the opening goal.

Speaking to Amazon Prime Video post-match, the young forward admitted the team struggled to maintain control in the second half.

“Yeah [it stings],” Palmer said. “We were winning for most of the game, but to lose at the end is difficult.

“First half we played well and controlled the game and had quite a few chances. Second half we lost a bit of control.

“They’re a good transition team and like to run direct, we got caught up in their game and paid the price.”

Palmer remained pragmatic about the defeat, emphasising Chelsea’s ongoing development under Enzo Maresca.

“We knew we weren’t going to win every game. It is the manager’s first season with us. We are learning. Everyone said from the start we aren’t title contenders. We are just getting better as a team and growing.”
