Chelsea’s aspirations for the Premier League title took a significant hit on Boxing Day following a 2-1 defeat to Fulham at Stamford Bridge.

This loss, coupled with Liverpool’s 3-1 comeback victory over Leicester City, has extended the gap between the Blues and the league leaders to seven points.

In the west London derby, Chelsea initially took the lead but were undone by two late goals from Fulham’s Harry Wilson and Rodrigo Muniz. Manager Enzo Maresca expressed his frustration post-match, particularly with the manner of the late concession.

Meanwhile, at Anfield, Liverpool showcased their resilience by overturning an early deficit against Leicester City. Goals from Cody Gakpo, Curtis Jones, and Mohamed Salah secured the Reds’ victory, extending their unbeaten league run to 13 games and bringing their point tally to 42 from 17 matches.

The updated Premier League standings after these results are as follows:

Chelsea will need to regroup quickly to prevent further erosion of their title ambitions as the season progresses.
