Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernández has credited manager Enzo Maresca for his recent resurgence in form, highlighting the Italian’s tactical guidance and unwavering trust.

After a challenging start at Stamford Bridge, where Fernández struggled to justify his £106 million transfer fee, the Argentine international has found his footing under Maresca’s mentorship.

“The first 18 months at Chelsea were difficult. Many changes… but I feel very good today,” Fernández told ESPN. “Maresca explained the position to me every day, and I learned and took on concepts, reading the game more every day. He really trusted me.”

Initially, Fernández’s performances led to him being benched in favor of Romeo Lavia. However, since his return last month, he has been instrumental in Chelsea’s climb to second place in the Premier League, contributing three goals and four assists in seven league games.

Fernández’s improved form has not gone unnoticed by former Chelsea midfielder John Obi Mikel, who praised Maresca’s handling of the situation. “Sometimes you need that kick up your backside to get you to wake up,” Mikel said. “The manager took him out of the firing line to protect him a little bit. Now, he’s brought him back into the team. He’s been absolutely fantastic.”

Looking ahead, Fernández remains focused on team success. “On a personal level, I have been feeling very good,” he said. “The team has shown a very strong character, always working and with humility, and showing that great things can be achieved. There is still a long way to go.”

Chelsea’s upcoming fixtures include hosting London rivals Fulham on Thursday, followed by a trip to Ipswich Town on December 30, as they aim to maintain their strong campaign under Maresca’s leadership.

Fernández’s journey reflects the positive impact of Maresca’s coaching philosophy, emphasizing the importance of trust and tactical clarity in player development.
