Chelsea played their first goalless draw of the season, as the Blues failed to score against Everton at Goodison Park.
Nevertheless, Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca was pleased with what he saw from his team.
“That was a real game. I am very happy because the performance of the boys was fantastic,” Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca told BBC after his side’s 0-0 draw against Everton at Goodison Park.
Despite missing chances in the first half, Chelsea showed resilience in difficult weather conditions against a stubborn Everton side. Maresca highlighted the significance of the result against a team renowned for their defensive solidity.
“Sometimes you have to play a different game, and we are learning to play a different game. They are one of the best teams in Europe in terms of clean sheets,” he explained.
The manager even went as far as to say he was more pleased with the draw at Goodison Park than last week’s 2-1 win over Brentford.
“I said to the players I was more happy than [last week’s] game at Brentford. We tried everything. For sure, you can always do something better, but we are very happy because this is a tough stadium – not only for us but also in the Premier League,” Maresca added.
Chelsea’s ability to adapt and battle through adversity earned them a valuable point and showed their growing maturity under Maresca’s guidance.
