Chelsea defender Marc Cucurella has opened up about his resurgence at Stamford Bridge, crediting manager Enzo Maresca and his teammates for helping him rediscover his confidence and form.
The Spanish left-back joined Chelsea from Brighton & Hove Albion in August 2022 for £60 million but faced difficulties settling in during his first season. However, after playing a key role in Spain’s Euro 2024 triumph, Cucurella has been in outstanding form for the Blues this campaign.
With 18 appearances across all competitions, Cucurella has firmly established himself as Chelsea’s first-choice left-back. His impressive contributions include scoring the opener against Brentford last weekend and netting another goal in Chelsea’s 5-1 victory over Shamrock Rovers on Thursday night.
“I’m very happy,” Cucurella told the official Chelsea website.
“I think in my first season it wasn’t easy, but I tried my best, worked hard, and waited for my moment. Now it’s a good moment for me and the team.”
Despite his recent success, Cucurella will miss Chelsea’s upcoming Premier League clash with Everton on Sunday due to suspension. Nevertheless, the 25-year-old is eager to build on his strong form when he returns to action.
