Former Manchester United defender Jaap Stam has declared Chelsea’s Cole Palmer as the Premier League’s standout player this season, even ahead of Liverpool superstar Mohamed Salah.

Stam’s comments come after Palmer’s incredible start to the campaign, where the Englishman has tallied 11 goals and six assists in 16 league matches for Chelsea. His form continues to build on last season’s success, when he was named Young Player of the Year.

Highlighting Palmer’s qualities, Stam told Sports Lens: “He is using his strengths to help their other players. His calmness on the ball, creativity, and goal-scoring threat make him the most influential player in the Premier League right now.”

While Stam acknowledged Salah’s outstanding form over the years, he believes Palmer’s rapid rise and impact at Chelsea set him apart:
“Palmer is very different [to Salah] because he doesn’t have the experience that Salah has when it comes to handling the opposition, but being so important for Chelsea so quickly and being so confident is amazing.”
