Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has hinted that Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, one of the club’s summer signings, could potentially depart Stamford Bridge as early as January. The midfielder joined Chelsea from Leicester City in a £30 million deal in July, reuniting with Maresca, who previously managed him at the Foxes.

However, Dewsbury-Hall’s impact at Chelsea has been limited. He is yet to start a Premier League game and has played just 55 minutes in the competition so far. His contributions have primarily come in the Europa Conference League, where he has registered two goals and an assist in six appearances.

The 26-year-old impressed in Chelsea’s 5-1 victory over Shamrock Rovers on Thursday, scoring his second goal in the competition. Despite this, Maresca couldn’t guarantee the player’s future at the club.

Speaking after the match, Maresca said:
“I cannot say that, not about Kiernan, about all the squad, because when the transfer window is open, unfortunately anything can happen. So I’m not focused on January. The only thing I can say about Kiernan is that we are very happy in the way he’s working, we are very happy about his performance, and this is my thought about Kiernan.”

While Maresca emphasized that the club is satisfied with Dewsbury-Hall’s efforts, he acknowledged that a player’s personal desire for more game time could influence transfer decisions.

“We don’t want one of our players to leave,” Maresca continued. “The problem is that sometimes the question is more for them, that if they say, OK, you don’t want me to leave, but I’m not happy, I want to play more. So in that case, we are not going to say, no, you have to stay, yes or yes. It’s a matter of agreement between the club and the player. The only thing I can say is that we are happy with Kiernan, then we’ll see.”

Dewsbury-Hall faces stiff competition for midfield spots at Chelsea, with Moises Caicedo, Romeo Lavia, and Enzo Fernandez all ahead of him in the pecking order. Despite this, the midfielder’s experience—including nearly 200 senior appearances and 80 in the Premier League—makes him a valuable asset.

With the January transfer window approaching, the situation remains uncertain. Maresca’s comments suggest that any decision will depend on mutual agreement between the player and the club. For now, Chelsea fans will hope Dewsbury-Hall continues to contribute as the team pushes forward in multiple competitions.
