Liverpool are reportedly preparing to rival Chelsea in the pursuit of Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi, with a potential £65 million bid lined up for next summer.

The 24-year-old England international is expected to leave Selhurst Park at the end of the 2024/25 season, with several top clubs eyeing his signature.

Guehi, whose current contract with Palace runs until 2026, was close to departing during the last summer window, with Newcastle United making a strong push to sign him. However, their final bid, also worth £65 million, fell short of Palace’s valuation.

Chelsea, who have maintained a long-standing interest in re-signing Guehi, are exploring a January move to beat the competition. The Blues hold a sell-on clause from the defender’s initial transfer to Palace, potentially giving them an edge in securing a discount compared to other suitors.

Despite Chelsea’s advantage, Liverpool’s entry into the race could complicate matters. The Reds are actively seeking defensive reinforcements for 2025 and view Guehi as a prime target to bolster their backline.
