Chelsea’s decision to sign Jadon Sancho from Manchester United on a season-long loan, with an obligation to buy for just £20-25 million, is being described as a masterstroke. Former Blues defender Glen Johnson has gone as far as to call it “the best deal ever.”

Sancho, once one of Europe’s most promising young talents, struggled to live up to his £73 million price tag at Old Trafford. A series of issues, including bust-ups with former United boss Erik ten Hag, further derailed his time at the club.

However, a loan return to Borussia Dortmund last season helped him regain form, playing a key role in their run to the Champions League final.

Chelsea’s faith in the England international appears to be paying off, with Sancho showing glimpses of his best form at Stamford Bridge. Johnson praised the deal, telling Betfred:

“Jadon Sancho’s move from Manchester United looks like a completely one-sided deal. These days, £23 million for a player like that, it’s like giving him away.

“What he’s done in the last few weeks is what we know he’s capable of, but he just needs to do it more often. He looks like he’s enjoying himself and that’s why he’s putting in performances, so the manager and his backroom staff deserve credit too because these players that weren’t performing are now.”

Johnson believes the low-cost transfer could go down as one of the club’s greatest deals, adding: “Getting Jadon to perform at a cost of £23m could be the best deal ever.”
