BBC pundit Troy Deeney has praised Marc Cucurella’s impressive performances this season, suggesting his resurgence could push Chelsea to part ways with Ben Chilwell.
Cucurella, who arrived from Brighton in 2022, endured a difficult first season at Stamford Bridge. However, the Spaniard has thrived this campaign, fresh off winning Euro 2024 with Spain. His consistency has made him one of Chelsea’s standout players under new manager Enzo Maresca.
The 26-year-old’s stats reflect his impact: he is second among Chelsea players for passes completed in the Premier League this season (359), while also averaging 3.69 final third passes, 2.62 clearances, and 4.23 recoveries per 90 minutes.
Meanwhile, Chilwell has struggled for game time, failing to make a single Premier League matchday squad under Maresca so far. The England international’s only appearance this season came in a 5-0 win over Barrow in the EFL Cup.
Chilwell, Chelsea’s second-highest earner at £200k per week, is now being linked with a January move, with Juventus emerging as a potential destination.
If Cucurella maintains his stellar form, Chelsea could make a final decision on Chilwell’s future in the coming transfer window.
