Chelsea’s 2-1 victory over Brentford on Sunday brought Chelsea within two points of Liverpool in the Premier League table, though the Reds have a game in hand.

Despite the impressive result, many Chelsea fans agree with manager Enzo Maresca’s cautious stance on their title credentials, insisting the team isn’t ready to challenge for the Premier League yet.

One fan, VinCatBlessed, highlighted the team’s defensive fragility: “Maresca is right in the sense that one goal up in the final minutes and the result doesn’t feel safe, that it could backfire.”

Another fan, BiggestReeceJames, echoed the sentiment: “He’s actually spot on. We are a good side, but there’s no way this side is anywhere near ready mentally to challenge for the Prem.”

Some fans pointed to specific areas of improvement needed for the Blues to compete at the top level.

Barnaboos shared: “We’re a world class CB away in my opinion. Most people point at Sanchez as a huge issue, but I think a world class CB who can command the back line (think Thiago Silva model) and we’re there.”

JM_HG added: “A team with a defence as shaky as ours isn’t ready to compete for the title. Simple as that.”

Chelsea supporters seem to agree that while the team is improving, more stability and leadership at the back are required before they can truly join the title race.
