Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has tempered expectations following his team’s recent victory against Brentford at home, emphasising the need for continued improvement before considering themselves Premier League title contenders.

Chelsea showed character to beat Brentford 2-1 and move to two points off Liverpool, but Enzo Maresca insists his side isn’t in the title race.

“It’s not about how many games we win. It’s about being realistic. There are things we have to do better. That’s why I said for me we are not ready,” Maresca stated.

Despite a series of impressive performances that have brought Chelsea within striking distance of the league leaders, Maresca remains cautious. He acknowledges the progress made but insists that the team must focus on refining their play to compete consistently at the highest level.

“We are ahead of my expectation, in terms of the way we play on the ball, off the ball, and in terms of the results,” Maresca noted.

Chelsea’s recent form has been encouraging, with significant victories narrowing the gap to the top of the table. However, Maresca’s measured approach suggests a commitment to long-term development over immediate accolades.

“The important thing is we improve day by day,” he added, highlighting his focus on the team’s continuous growth.
