Former Premier League winner Gael Clichy has highlighted Chelsea’s inexperience as a potential stumbling block in their unexpected title challenge this season.

Speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live, the ex-Arsenal and Manchester City defender pointed to the youthfulness of the squad as both a strength and a weakness.

“I think the lack of experience because they have so many young players,” Clichy explained.

Despite this, Clichy acknowledged Chelsea’s significant potential, given the resources, talent, and leadership at the club.

“But are they title contenders? I think with the money they’ve spent, the squad, and the manager they have, people start to realise that if the manager of today is the right one, they could go on and be really dominant for the next 10 years, with the players they have,” he said.

Clichy emphasised the excitement and new energy at Stamford Bridge but reiterated that Chelsea’s youthful squad could present challenges.

“I really feel that. But what can stop them is also the fact they are really young. There is a new coach and attitude there, and they are excited,” he added.
