Chelsea edged closer to the Premier League summit with a 2-1 victory over Brentford at Stamford Bridge, narrowing the gap to leaders Liverpool to just two points.

The Blues broke the deadlock just before half-time when Marc Cucurella headed in a cross from Noni Madueke, marking his first Premier League goal since May 2022.

In the second half, Brentford’s Fabio Carvalho nearly equalised, hitting the crossbar from close range. Chelsea capitalised on this missed opportunity when Nicolas Jackson, who had been persistent throughout the match, latched onto a pass from Enzo Fernandez, evaded a defender, and fired past goalkeeper Mark Flekken to double the lead.

Brentford managed a stoppage-time consolation goal through Bryan Mbeumo, who seized upon a mistake by Moises Caicedo.

However, Chelsea maintained their composure to secure the win.

This victory not only extends Chelsea’s winning streak to four league matches but also positions Chelsea as formidable contenders in the title race, intensifying the competition as the season progresses.
