2 Chelsea players set to leave the club in January

Chelsea are prepared to allow midfielders Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall and Carney Chukwuemeka to leave on loan in the upcoming January transfer window, according to The Mirror.

Both players have struggled for regular minutes under Enzo Maresca this season and are now being made available for temporary moves, as Chelsea seeks to offer them opportunities to play consistently elsewhere.

Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall

Dewsbury-Hall, who joined Chelsea in a £30 million move from Leicester City during the summer, has largely been limited to appearances in the Europa Conference League and other secondary competitions. The Mirror reports that his former club Leicester City has already registered interest in re-signing him next month.

Maresca previously spoke about Dewsbury-Hall’s adjustment to life at Chelsea, stating: “Kiernan was, at Leicester, the most important player. He moved to Chelsea to be one other player. You have to accept that. Probably at the beginning, you struggle to accept that. Now it’s getting better.”

The Chelsea boss added that Dewsbury-Hall has been putting in strong performances in the Conference League: “He is doing OK, but for sure for him, he has to continue to work, wait for the chance, and take it.”

Carney Chukwuemeka

Carney Chukwuemeka, who arrived at Stamford Bridge from Aston Villa as a teenager in a £20 million deal, could also depart on loan. The 20-year-old has struggled to secure a regular role in Chelsea’s squad this season, despite his potential.

Crystal Palace has long been admirers of Chukwuemeka and could reignite their interest in January. The Mirror adds that Maresca previously admitted that a move would have been “better” for Chukwuemeka, noting: “Carney is a very good player, but for the amount of players we have, we decided at the beginning of the season it is probably better to leave and go somewhere, prove himself, and play 30 or 35 games than being here and playing fewer games.”

Financial Hurdles

Both players’ high wages could present challenges in securing loan moves. According to The Mirror, Chelsea would need to contribute a portion of their salaries to facilitate any deals.

Conclusion

While a return to Leicester City seems plausible for Dewsbury-Hall, Chukwuemeka’s future could involve a Premier League side like Crystal Palace. These potential loan moves could offer both players a chance to reignite their careers and gain valuable playing time in the latter half of the season.
