Former Chelsea defender William Gallas has advised his former club against signing Mohamed Salah as a free agent next summer, warning that the move could upset the balance of the squad.

Salah, currently contracted to Liverpool, is expected to become a free agent at the end of the 2024-25 season, sparking speculation about his next destination.

Speaking to Prime Casino, Gallas said: “I think Chelsea should reject the chance to sign Mohamed Salah as a free agent this summer. I think he would be a disruption to the squad.”

Chelsea have thrived under manager Enzo Maresca this season, sitting just four points behind Liverpool at the top of the Premier League table.

With the youngest team in the league, the Blues have built a cohesive and ego-free environment, which Gallas believes would be at risk if Salah joined.

“The current Chelsea team are all learning and growing together, and it’s working for Enzo Maresca. They are all part of a generation with no big egos, despite Cole Palmer being the focal point,” Gallas added.

He also highlighted the importance of maintaining the squad’s chemistry over signing a high-profile player: “I think bringing in a player like Salah wouldn’t be good for the balance of the squad, despite his form in the Premier League and how it would weaken Liverpool.”

Salah previously spent a brief stint at Chelsea between 2014 and 2016, scoring two goals in 19 appearances before moving to Roma. Since joining Liverpool in 2017, he has become a Premier League legend, scoring 227 goals in 371 games and winning multiple major honours, including the Premier League and UEFA Champions League.
