Chelsea legend Frank Lampard has been officially appointed as the new head coach of Coventry City, marking his return to the managerial scene.
The 46-year-old has signed a two-and-a-half-year contract with the Championship club and will be joined by familiar faces Joe Edwards and Chris Jones, who were part of his coaching team during his time at Chelsea.
This move comes after the Sky Blues parted ways with long-serving manager Mark Robins, who had been in charge for an impressive seven years.
Lampard, a beloved figure at Stamford Bridge, now takes on the challenge of guiding Coventry City into the Premier League.
Coventry City owner and executive chairman Doug King expressed his excitement about Lampard’s appointment, stating:
“I am delighted that Frank Lampard has agreed to join our club as head coach.
“Frank cut his teeth in the Championship and knows what is needed in this league to be successful.
“His experiences thereafter at Chelsea and Everton will ensure he brings to our talented squad clear understanding of exactly what is needed to succeed at the very top level that we as a club are striving to reach.”
Lampard’s return to management is a significant moment, not only for him but for Chelsea fans who continue to follow his career closely.
His first stint as a manager in the Championship with Derby County saw him bring an exciting style of play and develop young talents, something Coventry City will be hoping to replicate.
Since leaving Chelsea for the second time after serving as interim boss in 2023, Lampard has been out of work, but his passion for football and his desire to succeed have never been in doubt.
As a Chelsea fan, it’s impossible not to feel proud and hopeful as he embarks on this new chapter.
The whole Chelsea community will be watching with keen interest as our legend takes the reins at Coventry City. Best of luck, Super Frank!
