Former Chelsea defender Malang Sarr has revealed the frustration he endured during his time at Chelsea.
Sarr has now spoken about his experience at the club, claiming that he felt like a “victim of the football business.”
Sarr signed up for Chelsea on a free transfer from OGC Nice back in 2020, but joined Porto on a season-long loan deal.
He’d then return to Chelsea and played under Thomas Tuchel. Despite making 21 appearances for the club, he found himself deemed surplus to requirements under Mauricio Pochettino.
Sarr was relegated from the squad after Tuchel left, and spent the entire 2023-24 season in limbo, not even training with the first team, before eventually agreeing to cancel his contract last summer.
Speaking to L’Equipe, Sarr claims he felt like he was paying the price for being part of a bloated squad.
“Was I a victim of the football business? That’s a big word but yes, I paid the price,” he said.
Sarr has also slammed an incident involving him and former Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino.
Mauricio Pochettino was asked about Malang Sarr, who was been on Chelsea’s books at the time.
Pochettino’s response was ‘Who?’
Speaking about it a year later, Sarr said: “I took it badly.
“It shouldn’t have happened. He knew me. He even tried to sign me at Tottenham. I didn’t ask for an explanation.”
