Former Premier League star Jamie O’Hara has not held back in his assessment of Chelsea goalkeeper Robert Sanchez, labelling him “terrible” and a “massive problem” for the Blues.
The Spaniard, who arrived at Stamford Bridge in a £25m deal from Brighton in the summer of 2023, has come under fire despite Chelsea’s resurgence this season under manager Enzo Maresca.
Speaking on talkSPORT after Chelsea’s impressive win against Leicester City, which solidified the Blues’ position in third place, O’Hara expressed concerns about Sanchez’s performances and insisted the club must address the issue in the upcoming January transfer window.
“Chelsea are looking good, you know,” O’Hara began, acknowledging the team’s progress. “They’re a bit shaky at the back still. Sanchez, the goalkeeper, is a massive problem. He’s terrible.”
The former midfielder emphasized that Sanchez’s position is crucial to Chelsea’s aspirations for silverware.
“The issue they’ve got is Sanchez. Teams that win the league don’t have a bad goalkeeper,” O’Hara continued.
“When you look at title winners, they all have one of the best goalkeepers in the world.
“That’s the issue they have, and they have to address that situation in January by buying a top, top goalkeeper.
“They are hard to find, don’t get me wrong, but that Sanchez is a problem for Chelsea.”
While O’Hara criticized Sanchez, he also praised the team’s overall quality and singled out Nicolas Jackson for his superb form.
“They look good overall. With the quality and the players they’ve got, they will always produce moments,” he added.
“Nicolas Jackson is on fire and proving people wrong too. He’s turning into a really good striker. They’ve got talent all over the park. They’re not a million miles off it now, are they?”
