Christopher Nkunku isn’t Chelsea’s priority because of this Brazilian star with so much quality

Estevao Willian

Chelsea legend Emmanuel Petit has revealed why Christopher Nkunku may not be the top priority at Stamford Bridge, and it’s all because of an incoming Brazilian sensation, Estevao Willian.

The Blues agreed to a £29m deal for the highly-rated 17-year-old earlier this year, although he will remain at Palmeiras until the summer of 2025.

Speaking to Casino Hawks, Petit shed light on why Nkunku’s role might take a backseat at Chelsea.

“Nkunku isn’t being prioritised at Chelsea because of who is coming in to play in that position, Estevao Willian,” Petit explained.

“This is a player who has broken Neymar’s records in Brazil and has so much quality despite only being 17.”

Willian, often referred to as one of the brightest talents in South America, has already set high expectations with his impressive performances in Brazil. Petit highlighted that Chelsea’s plans for the teenager are already set in motion.

“His agent says that everything is clear with the Chelsea board in terms of plans and he’ll be playing in the number 10 position next season,” Petit added.

Despite Nkunku’s solid performances when fit, Petit acknowledged that injuries have hindered the Frenchman’s impact.

“Nkunku has done well and has also played well for France, but his injuries have held him back and although Chelsea will be very happy to keep him, he isn’t their priority.”

With Estevao Willian poised to arrive and compete for the coveted number 10 role, Chelsea fans are brimming with excitement about the future. Could the Brazilian wonderkid be the next Neymar for the Blues? Only time will tell.
