Chelsea’s pursuit of Victor Osimhen appears to be on hold for now, as the Nigerian striker is reportedly not interested in leaving Galatasaray during the January transfer window.
The Blues came close to signing the prolific forward during the summer, negotiating until the final hours of the transfer window. However, a deal with Napoli could not be finalized, and Osimhen eventually moved to Turkish giants Galatasaray on a 12-month loan after being frozen out of the Napoli squad.
Despite reports suggesting Chelsea may reignite their interest in January, Florian Plettenberg claims Osimhen is happy in Istanbul. The 24-year-old has quickly become a fan favorite at Galatasaray, scoring an impressive eight goals and providing four assists in just nine games.
While Osimhen is thriving in Turkey, Galatasaray are reportedly exploring the possibility of making his stay permanent next summer. However, Napoli’s €75m (£62.7m) valuation presents a significant financial hurdle for the Turkish club, potentially leaving the door open for Chelsea.
The Blues have the resources to secure such a marquee signing and could see Osimhen as the perfect addition to bolster their attack. Despite the missed summer opportunity, manager Enzo Maresca has shown faith in his current options. Nicolas Jackson has delivered six goals in 11 Premier League games, while Christopher Nkunku has been sensational in cup competitions, netting nine times in just seven matches.
Chelsea fans will keep a close eye on the situation, hopeful that Osimhen’s stance might change as the season progresses. A player of his quality would undoubtedly elevate the Blues’ ambitions for silverware. For now, however, the striker’s focus remains firmly on his success at Galatasaray.
