Enzo Maresca was appointed as Chelsea manager during the summer, and his appointment didn’t seem to have impressed a lot of pundits.
Enzo Maresca’s early Chelsea decisions were also criticised, as he phased out a number of players from the first team.
However, after 11 round of Premier League matches, Chelsea have surpassed expectations, and the Blues are currently third in the league.
Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher, was one of Enzo Maresca’s biggest critics, but the ex-Liverpool man has now been won over by the Chelsea manager.
Carragher told the Stick to Football podcast: “I think the manager has done a brilliant job and to be honest I have been proven wrong a bit with Chelsea this season, I didn’t see this.
“I thought it would be chopping and changing of players, and there was talk about leaving players out at the start of the season, but you go to a Chelsea game and you almost know what the team is.
“I thought that would be a problem, having so many players egos and people causing trouble on the training pitch, but that doesn’t seem to have happened, so fair play to the manager.”
Manchester United legend Paul Scholes, has also given due credit to Enzo Maresca.
Scholes told The Overlap: “I think we’ve got to give Maresca credit because I remember on the show at the start of the year I felt he could’ve been one of the first ones gone. I think he’s been quite ruthless in what he’s done…
“I just felt he was a coach, but he’s come in, and it looks like he’s done everything. He’s got control, he’s bombed people out of the squad and put them to one part of the training pitch. He’s built a squad of players now that seem really good. They seem to have found something. They look like a brilliantly coached team.”
