Pedro Neto’s maiden Premier League goal for Chelsea proved pivotal as the Blues held Arsenal to a 1-1 draw at Stamford Bridge, moving Chelsea up to third in the league table.

This result not only sees Chelsea climb the standings but also extends Arsenal’s winless league run to four matches, putting the pressure on their London rivals.

The match began with just goal difference separating Chelsea and Arsenal, and that razor-thin margin was apparent throughout an evenly matched first half.

Despite both teams showing flashes of quality, neither could seize control. Chelsea had the first notable chance, with Cole Palmer testing David Raya with an ambitious attempt, while Malo Gusto missed a golden opportunity to give the Blues the lead, heading over Neto’s cross from close range.

Arsenal, meanwhile, saw a glimpse of goal when Gabriel Martinelli found space in the box, only to produce a tame shot that was comfortably saved by Robert Sánchez.

Kai Havertz thought he had struck against his former club following a quickly-taken free-kick from Declan Rice. However, his effort was ruled out due to a marginal offside, keeping the game finely poised at halftime.

The second half began slowly, but a teasing ball from Noni Madueke eventually sparked life into Chelsea’s attack. Wesley Fofana nearly converted from Madueke’s delivery but volleyed over, missing another promising opportunity.

Shortly after, Arsenal broke the deadlock as Martin Ødegaard, making his return to league action, found Martinelli, who slotted past Sánchez to give the visitors a one-goal advantage.

However, Chelsea quickly hit back. Neto, showing his quality in attack, cut inside and delivered a low, precise strike beyond Raya to level the score.

The Blues’ resilience was on display as they refused to let Arsenal gain an upper hand. A late offside decision denied Nicolas Jackson from potentially snatching a winner, and Arsenal’s final push was foiled by Leandro Trossard’s vital clearance, preserving Chelsea’s valuable point.

Chelsea’s search for a win over Arsenal continues, with their last victory coming in August 2021. Nevertheless, a hard-fought draw keeps them third in the league, losing just one of their last ten league games.
