Chelsea have been knocked out of the Carabao Cup, following a 2-0 defeat to Newcastle.
Chelsea lost the game following some shambolic defending, as two errors led to goals in a space of three minutes.
Speaking after the game, Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca blamed the defeat on Chelsea’s loss of concentration on those two occasions, and also failing to take their chances.
Enzo Maresca said: “We are sad we lost the game, of course, because it’s something we don’t like but now we have two days to prepare for the next game.
“We need to get better with many things. We didn’t concede any chances because of the press two days ago against them. We did very well tonight but there are many things we can do better.
“In the last 10 minutes of the first half, we had two clear-cut chances but didn’t score. In the second half, we were in control of the game. We lost the goal because of 10 minutes. For the rest, we were quite good.
“I think it worked if we analysed the performance. If we analysed the result, it didn’t work.
“For 20 minutes until their goal, we were in control. In the last 10 minutes of the first half, we had two clear-cut chances but didn’t score.”
Up next for Chelsea is a visit to Old Trafford in a Premier League clash on Sunday.
