Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca has told Reece James to step up in his role as Chelsea captain.

Reece James was appointed Chelsea captain last year under Mauricio Pochettino, following the departure of former skipper Cesar Azpilicueta.

Reece James’ time as captain has been blighted by injuries, and he has barely featured for the Blues.

Enzo Maresca has however told the 24-year-old to step up in his leadership.

“I expected from him more in terms of leadership,” the Chelsea boss said about his captain.

“Because you are the captain, you have to give more than the rest. Sometimes, ‘OK, I am the captain, I can give less’. No.

“He’s one of the captains and I expected him to give more in terms of leadership.”
