Chelsea midfielder midfielder Cesare Casadei has been urged to leave Chelsea in January in order to secure more game time.

The 21-year-old midfielder joined the Blues from Inter Milan in 2022 for €20 million (£16.8m) but has struggled to establish himself in the first team, making his senior debut only this January after loan stints with Reading and Leicester City.

His only appearances this season came against Barrow in the Carabao Cup and Gent in the Europa Conference League.

Italy Under-21s manager Carmine Nunziata, who saw Casadei score for Italy U21s earlier this week in their European Championship qualifier against the Republic of Ireland, believes the young midfielder should explore a move if his situation does not improve.

“Last year Cesare had a good first part with Leicester, then he went to Chelsea and played little,” Nunziata told Rai Radio 1 Sport.

“This year they kept him there, I advised him to see how it goes until January, otherwise it’s right to look around for another solution.

“The important thing is that the boys play. If they find a team in Italy, even better.

“But the experience abroad is also formative. For example, after playing in Switzerland, I found [Mattia] Zanotti to have improved a lot and grown a lot.”
