Chelsea have started out the season in impressive fashion, as the Blues are currently fourth in the league standings, and four points off Liverpool.

Can Chelsea fight for the title this season, after finishing 6th last term? Alan Shearer doesn’t think so, despite the fine start from Chelsea.

Chelsea have had mid-table finishes in recent years but slightly improved last season after a late end-of-season surge.

The Blues have also started the season pretty well. Former Newcastle striker Alan Shearer has praised Enzo Maresca’s job at Chelsea but argues it is too early to put Chelsea in the same tier with the likes of Man City, Arsenal and Liverpool.

“I think Enzo Maresca is doing a good job, there’s no doubt Chelsea would have taken fourth after seven or eight games,” Shearer said on The Rest Is Football podcast.

“I don’t expect them to challenge for the title, they could finish anywhere between fourth and eighth.”
