Chelsea left the St Mary’s Stadium with all three points, as an 86th minute goal from Christopher Nkunku was enough to seal the three points.
It could have been a different game had Evanilson converted his penalty kick.
After the penalty kick was awarded, the Bournemouth players were seen conversing on who should take the kick. Surprisingly, Cole Palmer was in their midst and trying to get into their heads – which eventually worked.
Evanilson missed his penalty kick, as Robert Sanchez guessed the right way.
Former Liverpool midfielder Jamie Redknapp revealed the impact Palmer’s gesture had on the Bournemouth players.
“Some managers I’ve worked with – Gerard Houllier was one – felt if you got fouled, he never wanted you to take the penalty. You’re just not in the right frame of mind,” Jamie Redknapp said on the penalty incident.
“The Bournemouth players were having a chat about it… Palmer is trying to get into peoples’ heads, ‘are you going to take it?’.
“Having a little discussion about it, trying to get into his head, all part of the psychology of football.
“Be interesting to see how good his [Evanilson’s] English is. He hasn’t been here that long, he probably doesn’t understand Cole Palmer! He got the gist of it I’m sure!”
