Chelsea left the St Mary’s Stadium with all three points, as an 86th minute goal from Christopher Nkunku was enough to seal the three points.
It wasn’t so much of a feisty game, but referee Anthony Taylor issued out a Premier League record of 14 yellow cards in one game, with 15 people being booked if you add the yellow card to Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca.
Bournemouth boss Andoni Iraola refused to speak about referee Anthony Taylor after he handed out 14 yellow cards, which is a new Premier League record, but rather stated that his team deserved to beat Chelsea.
Iraola couldn’t believe his side lost the game, after hitting the cross bar, hitting the post and missing a penalty, with goalkeeper Robert Sanchez making some good saves as well.
“Within 14, first yellows? Quite easy first yellows and then second yellows? Not easy but I will not focus on the referee. It hasn’t worked before so I will try not to focus on that,” Iraola stated.
“I think we were the better team and deserve probably to win, but when you are against this kind of opposition and miss a penalty, hit the crossbar, hit the post, miss more chances, their keeper is good, you can think that at one moment in the game they will hurt us and it happened at the end.”
Bournemouth indeed were the better side in the first-half, but Chelsea’s second-half display was much better, and the difference in quality separated both sides at the end.
