Chelsea paid £75m to sign Wesley Fofana from Leicester City in the summer of 2022.
Fofana was signed as a buzzing young player from Leicester City, and was 21 at the time. However, persistent injuries have curtailed his growth at Chelsea.
Fofana was born in Marseille and is a fan of the Ligue 1 side. He had contact with Marseille during the summer transfer window, and he admits he was tempted by the opportunity to move home.
Fofana signed a seven-year contract with Chelsea in 2022, and has admitted the possibility of playing for Marseille one day in the future.
“OM, we’ll see one day. I still have a contract until 2029 and we’ll see after that. I have never hidden it, [Marseille] is my city, my club, I am an OM supporter,” he said.
“We’ll see if I end up being at Marseille in a few years, or if I stay at Chelsea for the rest of my career.”
