Chelsea striker David Datro Fofana would be gnashing his teeth this moment, as he has failed yet another switch away from Chelsea.
Fofana was reported to be close to sealing a deal to Greek side AEK Athens, but the deal has broken down for a second time.
The transfer window in the Greek Super League slammed shut on Wednesday night, and it did so without David Datro Fofana joining AEK Athens.
Fofana had already agreed to join AEK on loan for the season, but reports claim that the two clubs failed to agree terms in time.
The main problem with the deal is that the two teams began talks over a transfer last week before changing that to a loan with an option, but couldn’t reach a meeting point.
According to local reports, AEK were never quite keen on Chelsea setting the option to buy at £20m, and while they were able to lower the clause to £16m, they did not want to agree to an option to break the loan in January should another team move in with a matching bid.
Both clubs weren’t able to compromise their demands before the Greek transfer window closed.
Fofana’s final hope is now a loan move to a Turkish club before their transfer window closes on Friday.
