Chelsea goalkeeper Filip Jorgensen had to be substituted during Denmark Under-21s’ convincing 5-0 victory over the Czech Republic on Tuesday night. The exact nature of his injury remains unclear, leaving fans and the club concerned about his fitness ahead of the Premier League’s resumption this weekend.
Jorgensen, who joined Chelsea this summer from Villarreal, has made two appearances in the Europa Conference League but is yet to make his Premier League debut. The 22-year-old was called up by the Denmark Under-21 squad for their recent international fixtures, starting in both the 4-2 defeat to Iceland and the subsequent 5-0 win over the Czech Republic.
However, during the latter stages of the emphatic victory against the Czechs, Jorgensen was replaced by Andreas Jungdal, as he was unable to finish the game. Denmark Under-21s manager Steffen Hojer expressed uncertainty regarding the severity of the injury, stating, “I don’t really know. He’s being checked. I don’t know how bad it went, but it was certainly [bad] enough for him to go off.”
Hojer added that he had a brief conversation with Jorgensen after the game, saying, “I just asked if he was okay. He was annoyed that he had to go off, but hopefully, it is not something that is really wrong.”
Chelsea will be hoping the injury is not serious, as the Blues prepare to return to Premier League action this Saturday with a trip to Bournemouth for an 8 pm kick-off. The club will be closely monitoring Jorgensen’s condition over the coming days, awaiting further updates on his fitness.
