Former Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has slammed Erik ten Hag’s handling of Jadon Sancho.
Sancho and Ten Hag had issues last year, which obviously never got resolved.
Sancho impressed as he was forced out on loan to Borussia Dortmund last season. Sancho, who was signed for big money, has now joined Chelsea on a cheap.
Ten Hag’s approach did not sit well with Klopp, and the former Liverpool and Dortmund manager has insisted Ten Hag should have been the one to show faith in Sancho when “the whole world” was against him.
“If the whole world loses trust and faith in the player, the manager has to be the one behind the player,” The Mirror quotes Klopp as saying.
“I cannot just buy into that ‘he’s useless,’ like other clubs did by the way – buying a player for £80 million and then sending him out on loan!”
In a recent interview, Manchester United sporting director Dan Ashworth revealed the reason behind Jadon Sancho’s loan to Chelsea, with Chelsea having an obligation to buy permanently.
Ashworth believes that Man United have four good wingers already in Marcus Rashford, Antony, Amad Diallo and Alejandro Garnacho, and Jadon Sancho could be considered as the fifth.
“We felt we had enough depth in that particular position [on the wing] to be able to cover it,” said the Man United sporting director at a recent press conference.
“We’ve got four really good wide players; Jadon [Sancho] was a fifth, and it just enabled us to make that decision that if it was good for him and good for us it was something we were willing to consider.”
When asked if Sancho’s feud with Erik ten Hag last season had anything to do with the departure, Ashworth replied: “Nothing to do with that.”
For Chelsea, this is indeed a good piece of transfer business. Manchester United will definitely regret it.
