Chelsea star Noni Madueke has embraced Enzo Maresca’s no-nonsense approach at Stamford Bridge, confident he will continue to thrive under the Italian’s firm guidance.
Since his arrival, Maresca has made several tough decisions, sidelining notable players like Raheem Sterling, Ben Chilwell, and Trevoh Chalobah from the first team. Even players who have performed well, like Madueke, haven’t escaped the head coach’s scrutiny.
Following Madueke’s first goal of the season in the Europa Conference League play-off against Servette, Maresca reminded him that he needs to “understand he needs consistency in training.”
The winger responded by netting a superb hat-trick against Wolves, yet Maresca still found areas for improvement. Despite a 6-2 victory at Molineux, the coach criticised a free-kick Madueke conceded before half-time, emphasising the need to avoid such errors, especially against teams strong from set-pieces.
Madueke, who recently earned his first senior England call-up, is eager to learn and improve, welcoming Maresca’s feedback as a tool for growth.
“I feel like it’s only a positive. He wants to push me and make sure I get the best out of myself in every single training session,” Madueke said.
The young winger continued, “Top players train to their fullest every single day, so that’s for sure what I strive to be as well. I think I’m in really good goalscoring form. My goalscoring has really improved over the last four or five months. Also just my reliability. I think I’m churning out games where I’m at a consistent level and long may it continue.”
Madueke, a star under England interim boss Lee Carsley at the Under-21 level, hopes to make his senior debut when the Three Lions face the Republic of Ireland on Saturday evening in Dublin.
With his positive attitude and hunger for improvement, Madueke looks set to keep flourishing under Maresca’s watchful eye.
