Napoli striker Victor Osimhen has reportedly sacked his agent, Roberto Calenda, amidst a protracted transfer saga that saw the Nigerian international fail to secure a move to Chelsea, according to Il Mattino (via TMW).
Osimhen is said to be furious with Calenda’s handling of negotiations, which he perceived as inept, especially in his attempts to engineer a permanent departure from Napoli.
According to the report, the forward, frustrated by the lack of progress, took matters into his own hands by negotiating his loan move to Turkish giants Galatasaray without the assistance of an agent.
On transfer deadline day, Osimhen was heavily linked with moves to both Al Ahli and Chelsea, but neither deal materialised.
Calenda faced intense criticism on social media, with many blaming him for the collapsed negotiations.
In the wake of the failed transfers, it is understood that Osimhen enlisted Turkish intermediary George Gardi to facilitate discussions with Galatasaray.
The eventual deal agreed upon was a straight loan until the end of the season, with a break clause in January should a top European club come calling.
Osimhen’s future remains uncertain, but his recent decision to part ways with Calenda suggests that he is determined to take control of his career and keep his options open for a potential move to a top European side.
