Manchester United have revealed the reason behind their decision to let Jadon Sancho join Chelsea, in a move that raised eyebrows across the footballing world.

Speaking to The Athletic, United’s Sporting Director, Dan Ashworth, provided insight into the club’s rationale for the transfer.

“We felt we had enough depth in that particular position to be able to cover it,” Ashworth explained.

“We’ve got four really good wide players; Jadon was a fifth, and it just enabled us to make that decision that if it was good for him and good for us, it was something we were willing to consider.”

Ashworth’s comments suggest that United felt their squad was already well-equipped in the wide areas, with Sancho viewed as an excess option.

The move to Chelsea has given Sancho a fresh opportunity to reignite his career under new management at Stamford Bridge, while United look to focus on their existing players.

For Chelsea fans, the acquisition of a player of Sancho’s calibre represents an exciting addition to the squad.

The winger, known for his pace, creativity, and goal-scoring ability, has the potential to make a significant impact.

As he settles into his new surroundings, there will be high expectations for him to deliver in a blue shirt and prove United’s decision to let him go was a miscalculation.
