Chelsea defender, Axel Disasi, could be heading for an early exit as new head coach Enzo Maresca reportedly doesn’t see him as part of the club’s long-term plans.
Disasi, who joined from Monaco last year for £38.5 million, has failed to impress in his time at Stamford Bridge, and it is believed he would struggle with the demands of Maresca’s possession-based system.
The French centre-back, who made 44 appearances last season, missed much of pre-season due to hernia surgery and has yet to convince the new manager.
Despite Chelsea’s depth in the centre-back position, with six senior players available, Disasi’s lack of comfort on the ball has raised concerns, particularly as Maresca prioritizes defenders who are adept at building play from the back.
Interest from Newcastle has emerged, and with Chelsea planning a significant squad overhaul before the transfer window closes, Disasi could be one of several high-profile departures.
Meanwhile, Maresca is content with Levi Colwill and Wesley Fofana as his first-choice centre-backs, though the latter will need careful management following a serious knee injury.
The uncertainty surrounding Disasi’s future adds to the growing list of potential exits at Chelsea, as the club looks to reshape its squad under Maresca’s new vision.
