Raheem Sterling has lost his place at Chelsea, and has been told to leave the club by Enzo Maresca.

A number of high-profile players have been told to leave Stamford Bridge, including vice-captain Ben Chilwell and Trevoh Chalobah.

Sterling was left out of the Chelsea squad to face Manchester City, much to his surprise and that of his camp.

Speaking on Wednesday, Maresca told reporters: “I spoke with Raheem before the Man City game. I said he’s going to struggle to get minutes with us and this is the reason.

“I’m not saying Raheem is not a good player but I prefer different kinds of wingers and this is the reason why.

“It’s not a comfortable situation. I know exactly the feeling but it’s good to know that if you stay you are going to struggle to get minutes.”

Sterling’s No.7 shirt will now be handed to new signing Pedro Neto.

Raheem Sterling is the team’s highest earner on £300,000-a-week, and is said to be surprised at the treatment he’s receiving.

Neto had initially been given the No.19 shirt with which he made his Chelsea debut, coming on as a substitute in the 2-0 loss to City. Pedro Neto will now wear the No.7 which he also wore at Wolves.

Trevoh Chalobah has also lost his No.14 jersey, which will be worn by new signing Joao Felix.
