Chelsea have a large squad that’s in need of trimming. The Blues have a squad of 42 players.
However, Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca, has said he’s not too keen on a large squad, and will only work with 21 players. This means that the other 21 players not in his plans should leave the club.
Enzo Maresca made these comments in his press conference ahead of Chelsea’s clash with Servette on Thursday.
“I am not working with 42 players. I am working with 21 players,” said Enzo Maresca when commenting about the size of his squad.
“The other 15-20 players are training apart. I don’t see them. It’s not a mess like it looks from outside. Absolutely not.
“They can even have 20 years contract, it’s not my point. I don’t care.”
Journalist Adam Crafton has slammed Enzo Maresca’s statement, and points out that clubs would now want to pay lesser money to buy these players.
Crafton said: “I don’t understand why any club (unless there’s competing interest creating an auction) would offer any kind of significant transfer fee for these 21 other players the manager has just declared he doesn’t care about.”
