Enzo Maresca admits regret for keeping this player on the bench against Manchester City

Chelsea started the season with a 2-0 home defeat to Manchester City.

Goals from Erling Haaland and Mateo Kovacic sunk Chelsea to an opening day defeat against the reigning champions.

New boss Enzo Maresca has inherited a large squad, and the new Chelsea manager has explained that he believes Mykhailo Mudryk deserved to start against Manchester City, but took the difficult choice of benching him.

Enzo Maresca said: “It has been difficult, Misha was one of those who deserved to start and same with some different players but sometimes you have to take decisions.”

Mykhailo Mudryk sat all game on the bench, while Raheem Sterling didn’t even make the squad.

With Joao Felix also set to sign for Chelsea, competition for places is expected to be intense.
