Chelsea and Atlético Madrid have reportedly opened discussions regarding a potential move for João Félix to Stamford Bridge, as part of an ongoing deal involving Conor Gallagher, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.

The discussions come after the collapse of Chelsea’s move for Atlético forward Samu Omorodion, prompting both clubs to seek alternative arrangements to avoid the breakdown of other negotiations.

The Omorodion deal, which was initially set to bring the 20-year-old striker to Chelsea for £34.5 million (€40 million), fell through due to issues in finalizing his contract. As a result, Chelsea and Atlético are now focusing on ensuring that the proposed deal involving Gallagher and Atlético’s Portuguese forward João Félix does not face a similar fate.

Jorge Mendes, Félix’s agent, is currently in London to facilitate the discussions, which are said to be progressing with both clubs keen to reach a satisfactory agreement. The potential inclusion of Félix, who spent part of 2022-23 season on loan at Chelsea, in the deal for Gallagher could provide a creative solution that benefits both parties.

Chelsea have been active in the transfer market this summer, with Gallagher’s future at the club being the subject of much speculation. The English midfielder has attracted interest from several clubs, including Atlético Madrid, who are looking to strengthen their squad.

Additionally, the clubs are keen to ensure that any deal involving Gallagher does not interfere with ongoing negotiations involving Julián Álvarez, with both clubs eager to finalize their respective transfer plans.

João Félix, who has been a standout talent at Atlético Madrid, is seen as a potential key addition to Chelsea’s attacking options. His experience in the Premier League during his previous loan spell at Chelsea could make him a valuable asset for the Blues as they look to bolster their squad for the upcoming season.

As discussions continue, both clubs will be hoping to finalize the deal swiftly, avoiding further complications as the transfer window draws closer to its conclusion.
