Trevoh Chalobah’s future at Chelsea appears increasingly uncertain as the central defender continues to train away from the first team, according to The Athletic.

Chalobah, 25, was notably excluded from Enzo Maresca’s squad for the club’s pre-season tour of the United States and has not rejoined the main group since their return to England earlier this week.

Despite signing a new long-term contract in November 2022, Chalobah seems to have fallen down the pecking order at Stamford Bridge.

The Chelsea hierarchy reportedly view Wesley Fofana, Axel Disasi, and summer signing Tosin Adarabioyo as preferred options for the right-sided centre-back position.

Additionally, highly-rated academy prospect Josh Acheampong is also being considered as an alternative to club captain Reece James and Malo Gusto at right-back.

This development comes as Chelsea seek to streamline their squad ahead of the new season, with Chalobah, along with Romelu Lukaku and Armando Broja, training separately from the main group.

The club’s stance is to avoid disrupting Maresca’s preparations by not including players who are no longer in their plans, preferring instead that they focus on securing moves away from the club before the transfer window closes at the end of the month.

Chalobah has previously turned down several opportunities to leave Chelsea, including a £25 million move to Nottingham Forest last summer.

He has made 80 appearances for his boyhood club and spent time on loan at Ipswich Town, Huddersfield Town, and French side Lorient.

A hamstring injury sidelined him for much of last season, but he managed to regain his spot in the starting lineup during the final stretch of the campaign under then-manager Mauricio Pochettino.

As the transfer window draws to a close, Chalobah’s future remains in limbo, with Chelsea seemingly ready to part ways with the versatile defender.
