Mason Mount left Chelsea to sign for Manchester United last summer.

Mount was a key player for Chelsea, and it was expected he’d put in a top performance for Manchester United, which never happened.

Persistent injuries and a lack of form troubled Mount last season.

United boss Erik ten Hag has admitted Mount suffered last season and was poor, but has backed him to do well this season.

Speaking in his latest press conference, Erik ten Hag said: “We know Mason Mount’s a high-class player and just bringing skills in.

“Last season, he had a very bad season, a very tough season for him because of all the injuries, and now we are very pleased he had a good pre-season.”

The Manchester United boss added: “I’m sure he can do great.”

Mount managed only 14 Premier League appearances last season.

Manchester United paid £60m to sign Mason Mount from Chelsea – a deal that has so far been worth it for Chelsea.
