According to The Times, Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez will be named as one of Chelsea’s vice-captains this season.

Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca is expected to change the leadership group, following the departure of Conor Gallagher, who is close to sealing a move to Atletico Madrid.

Conor Gallagher was one of the team’s vice-captains last season, and wore the armband more often than not, as Reece James was mostly injured.

Reece James is expected to continue as Chelsea captain, nevertheless.

Reece James handed the captain armband to Enzo Fernandez after he was taken off in the Blues’ friendly against Real Madrid.

Enzo Maresca believes Fernandez has won over his teammates, following the racism row.

Enzo Maresca was asked if that means Fernandez is the Blues’ vice-captain. Enzo Maresca has said that Fernandez has won the trust of his Chelsea teammates.

Maresca answered: “Enzo is one of the important players.

“To be honest, I think Reece [James] when we changed him, he gave the armband to Enzo. This shows how Enzo is respected inside the squad. I think it’s quite clear.”
