Chelsea have made a shock decision to sell midfielder Conor Gallagher.

Gallagher was a key player for Chelsea last season under Mauricio Pochettino, and played almost every game for the Blues.

One would wonder why Chelsea would want to sell their academy player who has now become a key player.

The decision to sell Conor Gallagher has been deemed senseless by many football observers, but Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca has shed some light on that.

Maresca has however slammed the Premier League’s rules, which is forcing Chelsea to sell home-grown players.

“In this moment, there is something between the club and the player; an agreement to stay or to leave,” said Maresca about Gallagher.

“These kinds of things happen in every club, every summer and in the end the final decision will be good for everyone. Hopefully the final decision will be good for Conor and the club.”

On Chelsea selling so many academy players, he added: “But this is not Chelsea’s problem, these are the rules. All the clubs at this moment are compelled to sell players from the academy because of the rules. It’s all of the Premier League clubs’ problems.”
