Chelsea chairman Todd Boehly is reportedly close to securing a major transfer coup with the potential signing of Victor Osimhen, according to former Everton chief Keith Wyness.

Speaking on Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Wyness claimed that bringing Osimhen to Stamford Bridge would mark Boehly’s most successful transfer to date.

Wyness, who served as CEO at Goodison Park from 2004 to 2009 and now advises elite clubs through his football consultancy, believes Osimhen’s arrival could significantly bolster Chelsea’s chances of a top-four finish.

The 25-year-old Nigerian striker has scored 76 goals in 133 appearances since joining Napoli from Lille in 2020.

“It could come right for Chelsea if that transaction happens, and it looks like it’s going in the right way,” said Wyness.

He emphasized that Osimhen’s potential impact could spark a competitive race for the Golden Boot with Manchester City’s Erling Haaland, adding, “I’m hoping he will come and kick off a bit of a race with Haaland for the Golden Boot. That would be fantastic for the Premier League and superb for Chelsea.”

Chelsea are reportedly negotiating a cash-plus-player deal that would see Belgian forward Romelu Lukaku head to Napoli in exchange for Osimhen.

“Osimhen would have to aim for 20 goals, and that would put Chelsea back into the reckoning for the top four,” Wyness asserted.

He also highlighted the broader impact Osimhen could have on the squad, stating, “It would inspire the other players in the squad, the likes of Mudryk. Osimhen could improve their performances too.”

Wyness concluded with a pointed remark about Chelsea’s recent transfer strategy under Boehly’s leadership, suggesting that the club may finally be addressing its needs effectively.

“Finally, Todd Boehly may be getting a big transfer right and throwing money at the right area – rather than wasting it,” he said.

As Chelsea fans eagerly await further developments, the potential signing of Osimhen represents a beacon of hope for a return to their competitive best in the Premier League.
