Chelsea drew 2-2 with Wrexham in a pre-season friendly in Santa Clara.

Everyone was looking forward to seeing how the Chelsea players will play in Enzo Maresca’s first game in charge of the team against third tier Wrexham.

The two major talking points from the game are Chelsea’s fluidity in attack, and also the gap in defence.

Christopher Nkunku put Chelsea ahead in the first half, scoring in the 35th minute to end the first-half 1-0.

Wrexham’s Luke Bolton and Jack Marriott capitalised on defensive lapses to turn the game around in the second-half, as they scored in the 58th and 71st minute respectively.

Lesley Ugochukwu equalised for Chelsea with seven minutes remaining to end the game 2-2.

The match revealed defensive issues for Chelsea under new manager Enzo Maresca, despite positive attacking play.

The game saw returns from injury for key players like Reece James and Romeo Lavia. Chelsea will next face Celtic in their pre-season tour of the USA.
