Reece James has reacted to being deployed as an inverted full-back in Enzo Maresca’s first game in charge of Chelsea.
Reece James started the game, and played the first 45 minutes as Chelsea drew 2-2 with Wrexham in the pre-season tour of the United States.
The Chelsea captain admitted the new role is a lot different, but claims it would suit him.
Reece James said about playing as an inverted full-back: “The early days have been very enjoyable. It’s a lot different to what I’m used to, but with how I play it suits me quite well.
“I’ve still got a lot to learn for what he wants in the role. But I’m excited, and I can’t wait.”
Marc Cucurella played as an inverted full-back towards the end of last season, and the Spaniard was excellent in that role, as Chelsea finished the campaign on a high.
