Chelsea Considering Sale of Key Player Just a Year After Joining Chelsea

Chelsea are reportedly ready to part ways with goalkeeper Djordje Petrovic, just a year after securing his services.

The Serbian international joined the Blues from the MLS last summer in a deal worth an initial £12.5 million, following a standout season.

After making his Premier League debut in December as a substitute for the injured Robert Sanchez, Petrovic became Mauricio Pochettino’s first-choice keeper, recording five clean sheets for the remainder of the 2023-24 season.

However, Petrovic is notably absent from Chelsea’s pre-season tour of the US due to a minor injury.

While he is expected to join the squad soon, his future at the club remains in doubt.

According to The Athletic, new head coach Enzo Maresca has raised concerns over Petrovic’s suitability for his tactical setup, prompting the club to consider offers for the 24-year-old.

Chelsea are exploring several goalkeeping options, although they have dismissed potential moves for Arsenal’s Aaron Ramsdale and Burnley’s James Trafford.

Instead, the club has shown interest in Villarreal’s Filip Jorgensen, who is highly regarded by Chelsea scouts.

As the transfer window progresses, it remains to be seen whether Petrovic will stay and fight for his place or seek opportunities elsewhere.
