Chelsea have decided to prevent Lesley Ugochukwu from participating in the upcoming Olympics, opting to keep him for their pre-season preparations.

According to The Athletic, the club plans to loan him out to another Premier League team to further his development.

Ugochukwu had been included in Thierry Henry’s preliminary squad for the Olympics but will now focus on his recovery and potential loan move after a hamstring injury affected his previous season.

The Olympic Games schedule is outside the FIFA window, so clubs have the right to restrict their players from playing in the tournament.

Chelsea intend to send Ugochukwu on loan this summer and his participation in the Olympics might hinder their plans.

Ugochukwu featured 15 times under Mauricio Pochettino last season, but his season was ruined by a hamstring injury.
